Nestled between the Alps and Adriatic,
Slovenia is one of Europe's smallest and loveliest countries, with
a wealth of history and heritage to explore. A timeless and tranquil
air pervades our ancient forests and mountains, a mood undisturbed
by the steady pace of farm and village life. Our towns may be small,
yet they offer opportunities to discover fine museums, shops and
galleries, beautiful architecture and of course to sample some of
the region's hearty fresh fare!
This unique and little known part of
Europe has much to offer, whether you enjoy walks or cycle routes;
Gothic, Baroque and vernacular architecture; industrial archaeology;
good food and drink; or simply want to escape from the pressures
of urban life there is something here for everyone. Throughout
the Heritage Trail there are numerous sites of natural and cultural
heritage which compare favourably with the best that Europe can
offer.
Whether you come to visit our region
in the cool crispness of a snowy winter or among the fresh scents
and sounds of spring, during the warm ripeness of summer or while
autumn months gently change the colours and textures around you,
we extend to you our warmest invitation. We look forward to welcoming
you to our region, and to sharing with you our rich natural and
cultural heritage. Come and visit us and stay for a while!
Our rich heritage has nurtured many of
Slovenia's most important and influential historic figures, and
the
roots of Slovene language, culture and identity can be explored
in our attractive rural landscapes.
This brochure highlights just some of
the major sights and experiences between the foothills of the Alps
and the Kolpa river there is much more to be enjoyed than we are
able to include in these pages.
